Description
Volunteers of America Texas is a faith based, non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals, families and communities reach their full spiritual, emotional and physical potential and wellbeing through a vast array of services that target the elderly, the intellectually disabled, those striving to overcome substance abuse, and those transitioning from correctional centers.
 
Function:
The Accounts Payable Clerk provides support for department functions with specific responsibility for performing activities related to the accurate processing of authorized invoices; recording, updating and reconciling related financial information; and providing instructions and/or accounting support to other personnel in accordance with established practices.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Match invoices and packing slips and code for processing.
  • Enter invoices on accounts payable system.
  • Process checks to be written.
  • Maintain check and invoice files.
  • Maintain vendor files.
  • Match/check invoices to vendor statements and VOA-TX documents that verify receipt of goods and services.
  • Assist in outgoing/incoming mail preparation as required.
Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and must successfully complete any required training and acquire any required certifications within prescribed timeframes.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Personal computer and 10-key experience required.  Typing of  55 words  per minute required.  Interpersonal skills and oral/written communications skills are important.  Knowledge of accounts payable required.  Work under general supervision.
  • Skill in the use of a personal computer and software applications (e.g. Microsoft, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of consumers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to recognize problems and take corrective actions as determined by agency and program policies and procedures.

Other  Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus two years transferable experience.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License (Must be received within 30 days of employment) and ability to be insured; valid Vehicle Liability if driving personal vehicle.
