Description

Volunteers of America Texas is a faith based, non-profit organization dedicated to helping individuals, families and communities reach their full spiritual, emotional and physical potential and wellbeing through a vast array of services that target the elderly, the intellectually disabled, those striving to overcome substance abuse, and those transitioning from correctional centers.

Function
Responsible for teaching parenting skills to residents and attending to the basic care, behavior management and development needs of the children residing at the treatment program.

Primary Responsibilities:
Supports the implementation of parenting goals as identified with the Child Development Specialist, with emphasis on modeling and teaching:
Child development, care and discipline.
Home management, including nutrition, food budgeting, purchase, and preparation.
Home and personal hygiene.
Identifying and accessing appropriate resources.
Supervises children's individual and group activities to stimulate growth in language, social, and motor skills such as learning to listen to instructions, playing with others, and using play equipment.
Instructs children in practices of personal cleanliness, self care, caring for own clothing, and picking up and putting away toys and books.
Provides client transportation to scheduled classes as part of the approved case plan, and provide childcare during class as needed.
Regularly documents parent-child interactions.
Coordinates children's services and provide transportation.
Advises Program Coordinator on any noted abuse and neglect, discipline, special needs, and/or emergencies and discusses appropriate action or alternatives.
Responsible for residents’ care, in compliance with standards of ethics and confidentiality.
This position does not have direct organizational supervisory responsibilities. 


Qualification Requirements:

Demonstrated ability in home management and record keeping and ability to mentor to residents and use positive discipline methods.
Knowledge of basic computer functions.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Demonstrates high degree of integrity and ethical standards.
Upholds organizational values.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

A current, valid Texas Drivers License is required and the ability to be insured.
