ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
Hutchins, TX

The Assistant Director of Operations position is available in the Community Re-Entry program of VOATX that provides a network of support to recently incarcerated individuals.  VOATX seeks to break the cycle of incarceration by helping individuals build life skills that will support them through the process of re-entering the community.  This position is for facility operations under the direction of the Facility Director.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Assists in the overall management of all levels of staff, including participating in all evaluations.
  • Serves as facility disciplinarian at the direction of the facility director.
  • Monitors and ensure implementation of the programming aspects for the facility based on contractual requirements.
  • Provides on-call coverage as scheduled.
  • Performs unannounced visits as directed.
  • Attends all meetings and trainings as scheduled or directed.
  • Implements all Volunteers of America Texas, Inc. Policies and Procedures, Personnel Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, and management directives.
  • Assists the Facility Director in assuring that the facility remains in compliance with all contractual requirements.
  • Assists the Facility Director in the development and implementation of a staff training program.
  • Acts in the capacity of the Facility Director in the absence of the Facility Director.
  • Supervises, supports, motivates, and empowers the members of his/her team.
  • Ensure that all departmental human resources responsibilities are met:   hiring, firing, staff training, career development, succession planning, equal employment opportunity, health and safety issues, evaluations and performance management for all staff operating each of the distinct programs.
  • Promotes an organizational culture that fosters passion for the mission, cooperation, open and frequent communication, teamwork, and a common organizational vision.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Human Services or related field plus two years of transferable experience and at least two years of supervisory experience; OR, Six years directly related, transferable residential experience with at least two years of supervisory experience; OR, Equivalent combination of education and experience (which includes at least two years of supervisory experience).
  • Skill in the use of a personal computer and software applications (e.g. Microsoft, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed records.
  • Able to respect and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision. 
  • Displays passion and optimism; inspires respect and trust, and treats people with respect.
  • Ability to interact with staff members and community contacts
  • Demonstrates ability to work with multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrates high degree of integrity and ethical standards
  • Upholds organizational values
  • Exercises initiative and sound judgment and reacts with discretion under varying conditions
  • Recognizes problems and takes corrective actions as determined by agency and program policies and procedures
  • Must have valid Texas Driver License (Must be received within 30 days of employment) and ability to be meet company insurance requirements (with satisfactory MVR record); valid Vehicle Liability if driving personal vehicle.
